Hiring a car is your best option for onward travel from the airport and with fantastic holiday resorts to explore at your leisure, Avis gives you the flexibility to travel under your own steam. The airport is situated about 3 miles southwest of Larnaca on the southern coast. The town itself makes an excellent base for exploring the island and has its own special charm. You could visit the main promenade with its palm trees, cafés and bars, the old Turkish quarter and the area around the old market with its craft shops.

If you are travelling further afield, you’ll probably need to use the A3, which is the main access road to and from the airport. If you are heading east towards Ayia Napa or Protaras you can just stay on this road for most of your journey, until you see signs for your destination. Heading west to Limassol? You’ll need to exit the A3 onto the A5 and then take the A1. Each of these popular resorts is well under an hour away.

UK motorists will be pleased to know that everyone drives on the left here! Road signs are in English and Greek, distances are given in kilometres and road speeds in kilometres per hour (km/h).

Breakdown assistance: Explore the island’s more remote areas with confidence. Our vehicles are serviced to exceptionally high standards making a breakdown unlikely, but it’s always nice to know you won’t be on your own if something does go wrong.

Out-of-hours return: You can return your vehicle when the car rental office is closed. This means you can plan your trip in complete freedom, just the way you want it.

Child seats: These are available on request. Remember that children under the age of five must travel in the back in a proper child restraint.
