Guimarães

The 15th-century Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, the Igreja de São Gualter, an 18th-century church, and the city’s castle are among the intriguing landmarks to see here. The Alberto Sampaio Museum, exhibiting a collection of religious art, is also well worth a visit.
Figueira da Foz
Visitors flock to the bustling resort of Figueira da Foz for its impressive beach. Claimed to be the widest in Europe, the beach boasts golden sands and huge waves that make it popular for watersports such as surfing.
The ruins of an old sea fort, the Forte de Santa Catarina can be seen at the southern end of the beach. This prime day trip destination is less than a 90-minute drive from Porto Train Station.
