Plan your journey from Menorca Mahon Airport
From Menorca Mahon Airport, you’re just a 10-minute drive (via the Me-12) from Mahon – the ideal starting point for your Menorca road trip.
Mahon is the island’s capital, offering excellent shopping and much entertainment. The old town presents a delightful mix of old and new, with narrow streets, shady squares and a selection of pavement cafes – perfect for watching the world go by.
If you’re looking for culture and history, Mahon has plenty to offer. Menorca Museum, settled in an old 17th century convent, exhibits a large collection of artefacts from the pre-Talayotic, Talayotic, Roman and Byzantine periods. It also boasts a number of paintings and artworks from the 19th and 20th centuries.
One of Mahon’s most popular tourist attractions, the Church of Santa Maria (built in 1287 and then rebuilt around 1748-1772) is also worth visiting. Highlights include a spectacular organ, featuring more than 3,000 pipes. Concerts and recitals are held here throughout the year.
Just 4km from Mahon is Talati de Dalt. The Talayotic remains here represent one of Menorca’s most important pre-historic sites and are definitely worth adding to your sightseeing list.
If you’re more into gastronomy than archaeology, you won’t be disappointed with the selection of restaurants and tapas bars scattered around both the harbour and in central Mahon, serving Spanish, Catalan and Italian cuisine.
